The first of a series of works that dealt with the ‘import’ and weight
of emptiness. Each painting contains elements of ‘illusory’ drawing.
However, the space between the paintings became pivotal to the work,
the space between the canvases becoming solid and having a presence
approaching the ‘weight’ of the paintings.
