This series of paintings includes four vertical diptychs, each a pair of canvases canted together at an angle from the wall. This activates the space before the work, incorporates it into pictorial space. The painted surfaces are conjoined, but obliquely. They slip against each other, and connect across a faultline. The space created within these works is broken, discontinuous. Small wooden maquettes, used to develop the the paintings, enable an immediate and tactile handling of space. Displayed alongside the finished works, these indications of working process involve us in the time of manufacture, the physical activity of painting.
